What Makes This Trial Different

We tested 116 women aged 30–60, across a range of skin types and ethnicities, over 12 weeks in the first and most robust clinical trial on a collagen supplement.
A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial conducted independently by Cutest Systems Ltd, the gold standard of clinical evidence, and the same methodology required for pharmaceutical medicines.
98% of participants showed measurable skin improvement across four outcomes including fine lines, wrinkles, hydration and elasticity, each verified using pharmaceutical-grade clinical instruments including Canfield Visia imaging and Cutometer technology.

gold standard testing

We selected the UK’s leading dermatological testing organisation, Cutest, to conduct this independent trial. This put Collagen+ under the same level of scrutiny that a pharmaceutical would undergo in a ‘Phase 1’ clinical trial.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What type of clinical trial was conducted on Collagen+?

Collagen+ was tested in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomised clinical trial (reference AN3471) conducted by Cutest Systems Ltd to the same standards required for pharmaceutical medicines, specifically consistent with Phase 1 clinical trial guidelines published by the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry. Neither the 116 participants nor the Cutest researchers knew who was receiving the active product during the trial, eliminating bias from both sides. This design is considered the gold standard of clinical evidence because it provides direct proof that a treatment genuinely works, rather than reflecting expectation or placebo effect.

Who conducted the Ingenious clinical trial and was it truly independent?

The trial was designed, administered and analysed entirely by Cutest Systems Ltd, the UK's leading dermatological testing organisation, which ordinarily works with pharmaceutical companies rather than supplement brands. Ingenious commissioned the trial but had no involvement in running it or interpreting the results. Stewart Long, CEO of Cutest, stated in the published trial report: "Cutest Systems Ltd conducted this rigorous placebo controlled double blind study entirely independently. Our data clearly show that regular use of Ingenious Collagen+ produces significant improvements in several aspects of skin condition and that the benefits are visible to others."

How many people took part in the trial and who were they?

116 women were recruited across an unusually broad age range of 30 to 60 years, spanning various skin types and ethnicities, and 107 completed the full 12-week trial. Participants were split equally - half receiving Ingenious Collagen+, half a placebo. Before each skin analysis, participants had makeup removed and spent 30 minutes in a room with clinically controlled temperature, humidity and lighting to ensure measurement accuracy. All facial photography was conducted using Canfield Visia imaging technology under identical controlled conditions at baseline and week 12, and images were not filtered or altered.

What did the clinical trial measure and how?

Four outcomes were measured using validated clinical instruments. Fine lines and wrinkles were assessed using Canfield Visia image analysis across a subsample of 42 participants, achieving statistical significance of p=0.0338. Skin elasticity was measured using a Cutometer R5 device across all 107 participants, reaching p<0.0221. Skin hydration was assessed using a Corneometer across all 107 participants. Facial appearance was evaluated through blinded comparison of randomised before-and-after photographs, achieving the strongest statistical result in the trial at p<0.0001. Every measurement was instrument-verified, not self-reported opinion or consumer survey.

What were the clinical trial results for Collagen+?

After 12 weeks, 98% of participants taking Ingenious Collagen+ showed significant improvement in at least one clinical measure. 77% experienced a statistically significant reduction in fine lines and wrinkles of up to 85%, with an average reduction across the group of 26.5% the largest gains occurring in the 30–40 age bracket. 62% showed improved skin hydration of up to 79.6%, with an average improvement of 29.8%. 55% demonstrated improved skin elasticity of up to 83%, with the 30–40 group recording the highest mean improvement at approximately 40%. 73% showed measurable improvement in overall facial appearance based on blinded photographic comparison. The placebo group, by contrast, showed negligible change or decline across the same measures over the same period.

Are the Collagen+ clinical trial results published?

The full trial findings are currently awaiting peer review for publication in the US Journal of Dermatology - a process that subjects the methodology and results to independent academic scrutiny before publication. Professor Luigi Martini, FRPharmS, Professor of Pharmaceutical Innovation at King's College London, independently reviewed the findings and concluded: "The results of this study are remarkable, proving with robust, direct, scientific evidence that Ingenious Collagen+ really works."
